It’s official, Split’s first “street food/craft beer” joint has opened on Vukovarska st., just on your left up the hill after the intersection of Slobode ul.

The brainchild of the same folks who run The Art of Wine and gourmet tasting tours here, their new place is definitely for the locals, with all sorts of cool stuff on the walls and shelves to make you sit up and smile while enjoying some fabulous sausages and other goodies.

The name of the place is actually Ko Baje which is Splicani for “sausage” but adding a “d” makes it literally, “the place at nobody’s”.  As an homage to the city’s colorful ex-Mayor, Zjelko Kerum, a bottle of Moet Chandon champagne has been fitted into a niche in the wall behind the main counter with the words “for the mayor” should he decide to drop in one day.

In addition to a rich palette of sausages, many served on home-made rolls (the only criticism here is I think they would be even yummier brushed with butter and grilled–American style!!), Ko(d) Baje has the city’s best collection of craft beers–more than 40, including one of my favorites from when I lived in  Seattle–Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

As the word spreads that Split finally has a dog house with great brewskies, the crowds will come–but why wait for summer?  Get yourself down, up Vukovarska and find your bliss in a bun!

come on in and enjoy the grub!
