82,500 ton Noordam docks in Split

Noordam

It’s not every day that an 82,500 ton cruise ship manages to dock in Split–usually they anchor outside the harbor and tender in.  But today she was the only cruise ship in town and the last berth, normally reserved for the tiny Jadrolinija ferry to Solta, fit perfectly.

Carrying almost 2000 passengers, the big 11 deck ship looked rather amazing against the tiny catamaran making its way to Hvar, with Blue Line’s overnight steamer to Italy in the berth next to it.

As part of the Holland American line fleet, here are her specs:

Class & type: Vista class cruise ship
Tonnage: gross tonnage (GT) of 82,500
Length: 936 ft (285.3 m)
Beam: 105.8 ft (32.2 m)
Decks: 11 passenger decks
Installed power: Diesel-electric
Propulsion: Azipod
Speed: maximum 24-knot (44 km/h),
service 22-knot (41 km/h)
Capacity: 1,916 passengers
Crew: 800 crew

An interesting sight on another Sunny day in Split!
