Strange sight today–a century old pine tree, in perfect condition, suddenly snaps and comes crashing into the street!  It’s the kind of freak accident where no one is really injured and even the cars buried under the boughs were barely scratched.  But seeing such a giant tree take over the entire road was amazing.

The police, a fire truck and a cherry picker to get the guys with chain saws up to the top of the wall were on the scene in less than 30 minutes.

With a couple of hours a cutting crew had chopped the monster into take-away firewood.

When all the debris was removed, we could actually see what had happened. The tree looks like it just came loose at its roots and all that weight leaning over the wall just snapped it   No one is sure why, since it hasn’t rained that much and the tree itself seemed to be in perfect condition.  But there you have it Split, in two!

Firemen had to get ujp on the high wall over the street to cut the tree in two places.
