Zzzzapp! wins investment and more from Eleven Accelerator Investment Fund

Less than a year ago, I met a local Croatian named Tino Tokic who explained his vision of a new kind of Wi Fi–not just a way to log onto the internet but a richly interactive platform that venues, users and advertisers would really value.

It sounded so basic, but so fabulous, I immediately contacted my friend Andrey Shtylenko, a Russian IT whiz who also lives here in Croatia, and told him he just had to meet this guy.

Well, as the say, the rest is history.  After a couple of months, we all teamed up and founded Zzzzapp! and a month later, we entered StartUpSplit!, part of a European road show to promote innovative start ups, and won first place!

It’s been a roller coaster from then—we signed up some clients, developed the software, made proposals…..and then a month ago decided to enter a major European contest to not only get an investment but “accelerated”.

Sol I’m thrilled to announce that Zzzzapp! has received its first investment from the Eleven Accelerator Venture Fund, a $12 million venture capital fund based in Sofia, Bulgaria (www.eleven.bg).

Eleven's fabulous workspace gives each startup a desk, high speed access, and the ability to work and meet with mentors and other start-ups

Eleven’s fabulous workspace gives each startup a desk, high speed access, and the ability to work and meet with mentors and other start-ups.

We were  one of 300 who entered Eleven’s third round of funding competition. Of these only 25 firms from southeastern Europe were invited to make presentations in Sofia two weeks ago and 11 of us received investment, a workspace and mentoring in Eleven’s Sofia accelerator for three months.

Tino with one of the mentors Tino, our CEO will be going to Sofia for the next three months and his co-founders will be joining him for part of the time.

“This is a real affirmation for what we have been creating,” Tokic said, “and the investment allows us to prove our concept at the international level and gain access to some of the best mentors in the world. Eleven has a great reputation and is already partnering with major players like Springboard and Google.”

The presentation schedule--each team had only three minutes to present its project in front of the investors--with a five minute Q and A that followed. Intense!!!

Zzzzapp! (www.zzzzapp.com) currently has more than 40 clients using its system in Split, Dubrovnik and on the island of Hvar. Among its users are the tourist board of Split, hotels, restaurants, cafes and shops. It is currently developing the first mobile directory of all shops in Diocletian’s Palace in cooperation with DiscoverSplit, my English language newspaper for tourists in Croatia, and its copyrighted map

Our latest development is a suite of applications for restaurants.  The first is called “Waiter!” a call system that uses Wi Fi to alert waiters that guests at a certain table are ready to order, pay their bill, etc. Another new application shows diners the restaurant’s complete menu and even has the ability for guests to comment on the food.

So in a week or so, Tino is off to Sofia and sometime during the next three months Andrey and I will join him.

The adventure begins!  Stay tuned!
