Split takes 3-1 lead in Croatian Baseball Championship

After being shellacked 12-2 in their first away game at Karlovac on Tuesday, Split came back on Wednesday with a thrilling 3-2 victory in a 13 inning cliff-hanger.

Once again, the leagues top two pitchers who faced each other in game l of the series here in Split, were on the mound.  Karlovac’s ace struck out 13 and Ernesto Periera 8.

In the end it was fundamental baseball that won the game….the lead off hitter got on, then stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored the winning run on a fly ball.

With a 3-1 lead in the best of 7 series, the championship now moves back to Split for a game on Saturday.  If needed another on Sunday–and if Karlovac manages to win the pair, I’m not quite sure where the final game will take place but will keep you posted!

Go Split!
